Marriage Counseling
Do you ever ask yourself, “Am I getting what I want in my relationship?” Are you happy, or are you just settling? If you’re like the millions of people who feel dissatisfied, you’ve been trying to negotiate a 21st century relationship with 20th century skills.
“We have never wanted more from our relationships than we do right now. We want more than what our parents and grandparents had. We want walks on the beach, great sex, and for our partners to help us thrive! We want true commitment and intimacy.” Terry Real, therapist and creator of Relational Life Therapy.
Close relationships, more than money or fame, are what keep people happy throughout their lives. “Our relationships and how happy we are in them, has a powerful influence on our health.” Said Robert Waldinger, psychiatrist, and professor of psychiatry at Harvard Medical School.
Those ties protect people from life’s discontent, help to delay mental and physical decline, and are better predictors of long and happy lives than social class, IQ, or even genes.
The people who were the most satisfied with their relationships at age 50 were the healthiest at age 80.
Relational Life Therapy, (RLT)
Relational Life Therapy is the name of the modality I offer. It is a direct practical approach to couples and individual therapy that helps people build authentic, intimate connections by teaching new interpersonal skills, fostering self-awareness, and resolving conflicts through honest communication and accountability. When we can’t be authentic, our brain gets into a stress response, which creates anxiety, stress, and depression.
In addition, I work with all couples, married or not. These same tools also help with difficult bosses, challenging family members, and disappointing friendships.
RLT teaches you and people you bring into the practice, how to be more relational. How to create connection, while addressing societal pressures and inner wounds that hinder true intimacy.
I teach people how to have the relationship you had imagined for yourself but didn’t believe it was possible.
